Destroyed by the fall of the spire and transept crossing vault in 2019, the liturgical platform, where the main alter stands, was rebuilt in its original dimensions: 25m long by 8m wide, measuring 200m² and weighing a total of 110 tonnes.
Composed of a metal frame hidden under 127 solid stone steps and 156 marble slabs, its construction was entrusted to the company H. Chevalier and required the know-how of a wide range of professionals: engineers, draftsmen, stonemasons, master stone carvers, etc.
The trial assembly of the liturgical platform was completed today in the metal-frame workshop of the company Baudin-Châteauneuf (Loiret), allowing the team to ensure all the elements fit together correctly. The trial assembly was also attended by Philippe Jost, President of the Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris public establishment, Père Guillaume Normand, Vice-Rector of the Cathedral, and Alexis Giroud, Architect in the project management team.
The liturgical platform will be installed in the Cathedral this fall, ready for the arrival of the new bronze altar commissioned by the diocese of Paris.
