The openwork levels of the spire now have a protective covering while awaiting the installation of the roof.&nbsp;While the needle of the spire has been covered with its lead exterior since the start of the year, the lower part needs to wait a little longer before the roof can be fitted. This division of the work into two phases was intended to allow the removal of the monumental scaffolding that went from the cathedral floor up to the spire, and the closure of the crossing vault. New, lighter scaffolding will soon be installed to allow the final work on the roof to begin. After several weeks of enjoying a unique view of the spire, showing it to be a masterpiece of oak framing, lead roofing and ornaments, the teams now need to protect the spire from the sun and heat. Les étages ajourés de la flèche sont désormais recouverts d’une protection, dans l’attente de leur couverture.&nbsp;En effet, alors que l'aiguille de la flèche est déjà couverte de plomb depuis le début de l’année, sa partie inférieure doit patienter encore quelques mois avant de recevoir sa propre couverture. Ce calendrier de travaux en deux temps a permis de retirer l’échafaudage monumental qui allait du sol de la cathédrale jusqu’à la flèche et de refermer ainsi définitivement la voûte de la croisée. Un nouvel échafaudage, bien plus léger, sera installé prochainement afin d’entamer les derniers travaux de couverture.&nbsp;Après avoir bénéficié pendant plusieurs semaines d’un point de vue inédit, donnant à voir que la flèche est un chef d’œuvre à la fois de charpente en chêne et de couverture et ornements en plomb, il est désormais nécessaire de protéger la flèche du soleil et des grandes chaleurs. La bâche, installée à cet effet et qui offre une représentation graphique de la future flèche une fois couverte, sera donc visible jusqu’à ce que les travaux reprennent dans le courant de l’automne 2024 pour s’achever en 2025.&nbsp;<figure class="image image_resized image-style-align-center" style="width:75%;"><img src="/uploads/NDP_202407absidebache_0360_2af9604781.jpg"></figure>David Bordes © Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris
