The base is a 20-meter-tall octagonal timber structure that forms the heart of <a href="https://rebatirnotredamedeparis.fr/en/restoration/reconstruction-of-the-frameworks-and-spire" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">the spire of Notre Dame de Paris</a>. It will sit on top of <a href="https://rebatirnotredamedeparis.fr/en/news/launch-of-the-reconstruction-of-the-spire" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">a lower base</a> built at the top of the cathedral last April and will support the openwork levels and needle of the spire.&nbsp;Measuring 7 meters long by 7 meters wide and nearly 20 meters tall, the base is composed of 285 parts, including 350 complex and very complex assembled components such as the famous “X node”, which is made up of 24 connected parts.&nbsp;Now finished, the base was made in a workshop in Lorraine by carpenters from the group composed of Le Bras Frères, mandatary, Asselin, Cruard, and Métiers du Bois, and a full-scale trial assembly was carried out to ensure it complied with the architects’ design.&nbsp;As the construction of the upper levels of the nave continue in the workshops over the coming weeks, the base will be definitively assembled and lifted to the transept crossing of Notre Dame, where it will join the Paris skyline at a height of 53 meters!&nbsp;<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:43.29%;"><img src="/uploads/3_min_eba6f8499b.jpg"></figure>Position of the base (in red) and the lower base already installed (dark brown), in the future spire.© Le Bras Frères

Le fût est une construction en bois de forme octogonale de 20 mètres de haut qui constitue le cœur de la <a href="https://rebatirnotredamedeparis.fr/restauration/la-reconstruction-des-charpentes-et-de-la-fleche" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">flèche de Notre-Dame de Paris</a>, au-dessus du <a href="https://rebatirnotredamedeparis.fr/actualites/lancement-de-la-reconstruction-de-la-fleche" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">tabouret</a> installé au sommet de la cathédrale en avril dernier. C’est sur cette structure que reposeront les étages ajourés puis l’aiguille.&nbsp;D’une dimension de 7 mètres de longueur par 7 mètres de largeur sur presque 20 mètres de hauteur, le fût est constitué de 285 pièces, comprenant 350 assemblages complexes, voire très complexes, dont le spectaculaire « nœud X », où 24 pièces se croisent.&nbsp;Réalisé dans un atelier lorrain par les charpentiers du groupement constitué de Le Bras Frères, mandataire, Asselin, Cruard et Métiers du Bois, le fût est désormais achevé et monté à blanc, ce qui signifie qu’il a été assemblé grandeur nature pour vérifier qu’il est conforme aux prescriptions des architectes.&nbsp;Pendant que la fabrication des niveaux supérieurs de la nef se poursuivra en atelier ces prochaines semaines, le fût sera assemblé puis remonté à la croisée du transept de Notre-Dame, où il surplombera Paris de 53 m&nbsp;!&nbsp;<figure class="image image_resized" style="width:43.29%;"><img src="/uploads/3_min_eba6f8499b.jpg"></figure>Position du fût (en rouge) et de la souche déjà installée (en marron foncé), dans la future flèche.© Le Bras Frères
